A New Beginning

On November 18, 2016 Central Synagogue of Nassau County and Reconstructionist Congregation Beth Emeth officially consolidated, following approval from The New York State Supreme Court.  This consolidation will facilitate what is intended to be a unique center for Progressive Judaism, under the direction of Rabbi Marc Gruber and Rabbi Elliot Skiddell. Central Synagogue-Beth Emeth (CSBE) will provide innovative religious, spiritual and cultural programming designed for congregants and community alike. CSBE will continue to reach out to and serve participants from across, Nassau, Suffolk, Queens, Brooklyn and beyond.

The video below tells the story of our congregation's journey as part of the Connected Congregations project, aninitiative of
UJA-Federation with Darim Online.

Our educational program prepares students to:

  • have a positive Jewish identity and connect themselves to our people through the study of Jewish history, ethics, theology, and rituals
  • have a relationship with God, and to express this relationship in various ways
  • affirm their bond to both Eretz Yisrael (the land of Israel) and the modern State of Israel
  • value the study of Torah and Rabbinic literature
  • read Hebrew, and to understand the themes, key words and appropriate occasions for the recital of prayers in the Reform liturgy
  • pray with sincerity, and to participate in services in both our own synagogue and in synagogues worldwide
  • appreciate Hebrew as a modern, living language
  • pursue mishpat (justice), tzedek (righteousness), and chesed (loving deeds), and to understand that these acts are mitzvot (Jewish obligations)
  • celebrate Shabbat and other holidays, and to observe Jewish life cycle events with an understanding of why and how they are observed
  • respect themselves as liberal Jews and to be able to make informed choices
  • express kinship with K'lal Yisrael (the community of Israel) by learning about the diversity of Judaism within their own community and around the world
  • support, participate in, and enjoy synagogue life, and to view the synagogue as a safe and enriching environment
  • encourage the participation of parents in the Jewish education of their children and provide opportunities to enrich their education
  • continuously strive to provide a quality instructional program, for all, in a safe school environment

Our building has accommodations for students with physical challenges and for students with special needs we make efforts to partner with our families to provide a Jewish education and life cycle celebrations.  You can read more about this here
