Our PRE-K program is designed to prepare the children for Kindergarten. Our hands-on approach integrates literature with creative and emotional development. All functions of language are encouraged. We follow the Common Core guidelines, taking into consideration the individual differences and needs of each child. The curriculum continues to be thematic, with emphasis on letter recognition and phonemic awareness. We focus on all of the readiness skills required in Kindergarten. We continue to promote each child’s social and emotional development and encourage their individuality. Free play and gym time or playground time are also an essential part of the four year old’s day to further promote motor development and social skills. For additional information, please contact Robyn Teigman, Early Childhood Director at 516-763-0235.
Our THREE YEAR OLD PROGRAM is designed to further encourage each child’s development. The curriculum of this program utilizes a thematic, hands-on approach to learning. Young learners are experiential and sensory learners. To really understand and make meaning of each new experience, children must “touch it” with all of their senses. Various themes are selected throughout the year that incorporate “across the curriculum” learning – literature, music, crafts, science, etc. We offer as many hands-on experiences as possible, as that is how little ones learn best. Through individual and group involvement, the environment will provide a range of activities to promote social development as well as motor skills. The program is also designed to encourage expressive language development.
The age of two is a very special time in your little one’s life. We offer two options for children of this age. Both classes are your child’s first experience in school without Mom. The TODDLER class is geared towards children under the age of 2 1⁄2 and our PLAYMATES class is for children 2 1⁄2 plus. The goal of both of these classes is to give the children the foundation for developing a positive attitude towards future schooling. The programs provide a gentle and gradual separation customized to the needs of each child and parent. The nurturing environment of these classes encourages each child to venture into the social/academic world on his/her own. He/she will encounter both group and individual activities focusing on perception, gross and fine motor skills, independence, socialization and language development. They will experience different craft activities, participate in musical activities, learn shapes, colors, holidays, etc. Most importantly, they will complete this class with a positive attitude about themselves as well as school.
Our Watch Us Grow program is designed for children 16 months and older and provides a unique opportunity for children and a special adult to spend time together without outside distractions. The class consists of gym time, free play, arts and crafts, snack and circle time. We welcome Moms, Dads, Grandparents, Nannies, etc. to accompany the children.
